À l’hiver 2010, j’ai eu le bonheur de composer la musique de scène pour une production de la Trilogie des dragons (Robert Lepage & collectif) dirigée par Michel Forgues et présentée le 4&5 juin, 2010, au Théâtre du nouveau monde, à Montréal.

Au cours de la 2ième partie (le Dragon rouge) doit être entendue la chanson Youkali, composée par Kurt Weill sur un texte de Roger Fernay. La chanson devant être présentée sur scène, j’en ai fait un arrangement, intitulé Youkali (piano&bass) ; j’en ai également réalisé une relecture jazz, intitulée Youkali Tableaux ; ainsi qu’une autre version instrumentale avec violon chinois, dans l’esprit de la pièce, dans son mouvement vers l’est, intitulée Youkali Orient. Ces trois pièces constituent donc une Trilogie de Youkali

During the winter of 2010, I had the great pleasure of creating the stage music for a production of La Trilogie des dragons (by Robert Lepage & collective), directed by Michel Forgues and presented on June 4&5, 2010 at Montreal’s Théâtre du nouveau monde.

During the play’s second part (the Red Dragon), a song called Youkali (by Kurt Weill on lyrics by Roger Fernay) is to be heard onstage, so I wrote and recorded an arrangement to be heard with the live singer, entitled Youkali (piano&bass); I also wrote and played a jazz reading of the song, entitled Youkali Tableaux; and finally I produced an instrumental version with Chinese violin, in the spirit of the Lepage’s play, with its movement towards the East, entitled Youkali Orient.
